La porcellana bianca e blu è nata in Cina ed ha avuto un grande sviluppo durante il XVIII° secolo in tutta Europa. Le manifatture inglesi, tedesche e olandesi, per soddisfare la crescente domanda, producevano piatti in porcellana decorati con transfer dai motivi orientaleggianti. Il successo fù così grande che successivamente la China riprese quei modelli europeizzati copiandoli a sua volta.
A Secret History of Blue and White, ci porta una visione tutta Australiana dei clichè legati a queste produzioni, sottolineando il legame culturale tra Europa ed Asia. Questa mostra itinerante nata da una collaborazione tra l'Asialink Centre dell'Università di Melbourne e dal Jam Factory Contemporary Craft and Design centre, riporta questi "frammenti di Impero" in Asia esibendo con occhio critico la tradizione della porcellana decorata con il cobalto.

The Australian Version
Blue and white ware was born in China and was largely exported all over Europe during the 18th century. English, German and Dutch manifactures started coping these very popular oriental designs creating a new style. These european-oriental design, made from tranfers, were so succesfull that they got exported back to China and reproduced using the great chinese decoration skills. A Secreat History of Blue and White is a touring exhibition born from a collaboration between JamFactory Contemporary Craft and Design and Asialink at The University of Melbourne. With a critical eye, five australian ceramist reinterpret the tradition of these fragments of the Empire.
