In gran parte autodidatta, Patrick Colhoun è creasciuto da un iniziale interesse al lavoro sul tornio a combinare questa tecnica con la costruzione manuale, per esplorare forme e superfici diverse.
"A questo punto della mia carriera ceramica, cerco continuamente di allargare i confini della creatività, della forma e della finitura. Penso che lo farò sempre. Lavoro principalmente con creta nera, che mi concede il lusso di lasciare, di volta in volta, alcune parti 'nude'. Sono anche molto interessato ad esplorare come alcuni materiali, come il metallo si combinano con la ceramica."
Nelle esposizioni Patrick è portato ad usare la narrativa per aiutare a descrivere il significato dietro le sue creazioni, e per creare una connessione tra loro.

PC: Perseveranza, tenacità e la curiosità di sapere quanto posso essere bravo! E anche il desiderio di essere diverso.

CV:Qual'e il tuo pezzo in ceramica preferito?
PC: La prima volta che ho lavorato al tornio e ho creato una forma che assomigliava a una ciotola, è stato molto bello. Il mio pezzo preferito è sicuramente quello della mia prima mostra in pubblico, Belfast, Not Yet the Big Fish, che spiega come Belfast, anche se in una nuova era pacifica, ha ancora una popolazione molto divisa e frammentata.

CV: Da cosa trai ispirazione?
PC: Molto dalla voglia di rendere il mio lavoro diverso, unico, che spicchi rispetto agli altri. Diverse cose mi ispirano a seconda dei momenti, la mia prima mostra è stata ispirata da un periodo di disoccupazione, altre influenze sono sicuramente il fatto di essere cresciuto in Irlanda del Nord e l'interesse nell'esplorare come materiali diversi funzionano insieme, sempre cercando di essere differente.

CV: Se potessi scegliere dove vivere/lavorare nel mondo, dove andresti?
PC: Belfast. Essendo creasciuto attraverso glia nni problematici dell'Irlanda del Nord, adesso sembra esserci un certo grado di normalità, sta diventando interessante sarebbe un peccato mollare adesso.

Largely self-taught, Patrick Colhoun has expanded upon an early interest in throwing by combining this with coiling and hand building to explore different shapes and textures.
‘At this stage of my ceramics career, I am striving to push boundaries all the time in terms of creativity, form and finish. I suspect I always will. I am working largely with black clay which allows me the luxury of leaving parts of the work raw from time to time. I am also particularly interested in exploring how certain materials, such as metal and ceramics work together.’When exhibiting, Patrick is particularly keen on using narrative to help to describe the meaning behind his pieces, often using the narrative to create a connection between them.

CV: Five words that describe your work
PC:Learning, learning, learning, always learning!

CV: What aspect of your personality is more useful in your practice?
PC:Perseverance, tenacity and the curiosity to know how good I can be! Also the desire to be different.

CV:What is your ceramic piece ever?
PC:The first time I threw something on the wheel that turned into a shape resembling a bowl was very cool! My favourite ever piece has to be my first public exhibit, called Not Yet the Big Fish, which explained how Belfast, though going through a new peaceful era, still contained a very fragmented and divided population.

CV:Where do you get your inspiration from?
PC:Mostly from the desire for my work to be different, to be unique and to stand out from others. I am inspired by different things at different time, my first solo exhibition was inspired by going through a process of redundancy, other influences include growing up in Northern Ireland and exploring how different materials can be used together, at all times trying to be different!

CV: If you could choose where to live/work in the world, where would you go?
PC: Belfast. Having grown up through the troubles in Northern Ireland, the place is starting to have a certain degree of normality, it’s becoming quite cool, would be a shame to bale out now!
