Beth Cavener Stichter at La Meridiana

Wonderful chance to meet this great artist !
 
Una conferenza e incontro per conoscere una artista dalla forza espressiva immediata ed esplosiva.
Presenterà immagini delle sue opere e ne illustrerà l'evoluzione dal punto di vista concettuale, tecnico e psicologico.
Nel pomeriggio, presso La Meridiana, Scuola Internazionale d'Arte Ceramica,
l'artista sarà lieta di esporre e parlare dell'opera su cui sta lavorando attualmente
nel suo soggiorno come artista in residenza.

Beth Cavener Stichter in NY
Durante il mio soggiorno Newyorkese ho fatto una visita a tappeto delle gallerie di Chelsea. Per caso sono finita da Claire Oliver, che inaugurava in quei giorni la mostra di Beth Cavener Sticher.
Le opere esposte erano molto forti e anche l'odore nella galleria, e così la voglia di uscire all'aria aperta ha vinta sulla curiosità di indagare di cosa erano fatti questi animali. Pensavo fosse una qualche resina (così da giustificare il forte odore) e mi sembra più "normale" per una galleria di arte contemporanea ospitare materiali più moderni. E invece cos'era ? Leggendo il SlipcastBlog scopro che proprio della cara e vecchia ceramica si trattava, che svista! Posso dirvi, con il senno del poi che non so se mi piacciano o se vorrei una capra arrapata o incaprettata nel mio salotto, ma sicuramente sono un lavoro di grande maestria, il risultato del materiale è così diverso e così incredibile che bisogna verderlo.

During my recent visit to N.Y., on a gallery crawl around Chelsea I happened to enter Claire Oliver on 26th Street. The show just opened was Beth Cavener Sticher on Tender Hooks. And I don't know if it was the strong emotional baggage of the work or the strong odor in the gallery that made me sheepishly go for the door. I should have paid more attention! I dismiss it as the usual work shocking work made by talented workers for some conceptual new artist (nothing wrong with that, but too much of anything is not good)...Ahhhh prejudice...How could I have been more wrong ! Thanks to the Slipcast blog I found out what a talented artist she is ! And by the way I thought it was some sort of resin (shame on me).
Still I am not sure if it is my cup of tea, horny goat in my living....not ready, but the work is new, strong and incredibly well made.
