Luca Tripaldi e l'Esperienza Inglese
Luca Tripaldi è uno di quei ceramisti che riesce nel difficilissimo compito di infondere a pezzi che crea un'anima. Guardando le sue creazioni abbiamo l'impressione che per esistere non abbiano bisogno della sua presenza, ma siano animate da vita propria. Questa è una dote molte speciale, che ha a che fare relativamente con la bravura tecnica, e molto di più con l'ispirazione.
Mi vengono in mente le migliaia di cilindri, ad occhio inesperto tutti identici, realizzati dal maestro Shoi Hamada, prima di ritenersi soddisfatto del risultato.
Gli smalti a cristalli matt, che circondano le sue creazioni, tradiscono un intenso lavoro di ricerca e sperimentazione.
Unico ceramista italiano a Ceramic Art Fair 2009, l'eccellente fiera londinese per la "studio pottery", ha vissuto un'eperienza davvero interessante dal punto di vista della professionalità e della collaborazione. Mi ha raccontato come, sopratutto nel rapporto tra colleghi ci sia uno scambio di informazioni che contribuisce alla realizzazione di un tessuto fondamentale per la vita di un ceramica d'eccellenza.

Luca Tripaldi and the English Experience
Luca Tripaldi is one of those few potters that succeeds in giving a soul to his creations. Looking at his pieces we have the impression that they are animated by a life of their own. This is a very special gift that has a lot more to do with inspiration than excellent tecnique. It brings to mind the milions of cilinders Shoi Hamada used to throw, all identical to an inexperience eye, before feeling satisfied with the result.
The glazes with matt crystals that surround the body of his pieces, reveal a laborious work of experimentation and trial.
The only Italian potter participating Ceramic Art Fair 2009, the prestigious London's fair for studio pottery, Luca experienced the professionalism of the English ceramic world. He told me, that especially in the relationships among colleagues, the exchange of informations contribute to the construction of a solid base for the growth of top quality ceramics.

La Ceramica Contemporanea all'Asta
Il 27 maggio a Parigi dalle ore 14,30 avrà inizio un'asta tutta dedicata alla Ceramica Contemoporanea. Dal titolo "Prospection" è un avvenimento che ci permette di fare il punto sullo stato della ceramica come forma d'arte. Inoltre l'esposizione diventa un trampolino di lancio per gli artisti presenti. Christine e la Ceramica Navajo
La McHorse discende dalla tribù dei nativi americani Navajo. Ha imparato dalla nonna una tecnica originale per la lavorazione della creta locale ad alto contenuto di mica.
I suoi lavori combinano le antiche tecniche indiane con la modernità della scultura, la creta che usa proviene direttamente dalle montagne di Taos in New Mexico. Spesso cotte in riduzione, queste creazione tramandano l'antico sapere con la modernità più sofisticata. Vincitrice di molti premi e grande rappresentante dell'arte nativa americana, Christine rappresentata dalla Galleria Garth Clark, sarà presente alla fiera Sofa Santa Fe dall'11 al 14 Luglio.

Christine and the Navajo Pottery
Christine is a full-blooded Navajo, one of the greatest Native American's Tribes. She learned from her grandmother the ancient technique of working with speckled micaceous clay. Her creations combine traditional skill with cutting edge modernity. The clay she uses comes directly from Taos mountain in New Mexico. Often fired in reductive atmosphere, her pieces speak of ancient knowledge. Awarded many prizes and great representative of Native Americans Art, Christine's work will be show at Sofa Santa Fe by Garth Clark Gallery, from the 11th to the 14th of July.

Lettere di un Collezionista ad una Ceramista

Richard Jacobs è un collezionista di ceramiche, Christa Assad una ceramista. Nel 2002 Jacobs in vacanza con la moglie entra nel negozio di Christa Assad, compra un suo pezzo, scambiano qualche parola ed esce. Dopo alcuni mesi Christa riceve la prima lettera di una corrispondenza che andrà avanti per cinque anni, producendo oltre 700 pagine. Ispirato da "Lettere ad un Giovane Poeta" di R.M. Rilke, Jacobs inizia una corrispondenza con la giovane ceramista. Nelle lettere che i due si scambieranno si parlera di ceramica ma sopratutto di vita, nelle tante domande che l'instancabile Jacobs si pone, troveranno posto le immagini più diverse. Il risultato è affascinante, la bellezza sempre sfuggente appare in luoghi insoliti, guidandoci in un viaggio attraverso la mente di un collezionista immerso nell'esperienza estetica.

Searching for Beauty
Letters from a Collector to a Studio Potter

Richard Jacobs is a ceramic collector, Christa Assad is a potter. In 2002 Jacobs on a holiday with his wife, enters the shop of Christa Assad, buys one of her pieces, has a brief conversation with her and leaves. After few months Christa recieves the first of many letters that will follow during the course of the next five year, producing more than 700 pages. Inspired by "Letters to a Young Poet" by R.M. Rilke, Jacobs starts a correspondence with the young potter. In the letters he talks about ceramic, but above all, of life, in the many questions that the restless Jacobs ask himself very diverse images gather. The result is facinating, elusive beauty appears in the most unusual places, guiding us through the mind of a collector immersed in the aesthetic experience.

"The creative process of receiving and experiencing aesthetic experiences can be as profound and complex as any artifact that inspires it. For this to happen it requires the full employment of the critical intelligence and

Seres 2009

Il 29 di Maggio sarà la data termine per la presentazione delle opere per la mostra associata a Seres 2009. Il Congresso Internazionale di Ceramica, Vetro, Smalto, Cristalline e Pigmenti si terrà dal 12 al 14 Ottobre nella città turca di Eskisehir. In collaborazione con l'Università Andalou, questo evento ha lo scopo di far incontrare accademici, artisti, designer, e professionisti delle medesime industrie, facilitando lo scambio di conoscenze ed esperienze e creando contatti per possibili collaborazioni future. La lingua ufficiale del congresso è l'inglese.
The 29th of May is the deadline for submitting work for the exhibition held during Seres 2009. From the 12th to the 14th of October the turkish city of Eskeshir will host the International Ceramic, Glass, Enamel, Glaze and Pigment Congress. In collaboration with Andalou University this event aims to bring academicians, artists, designers and people of regarded industries together, supplying them suitable arena for sharing knowledge and experiences and for determining possible future collaborations with its wide range of coverage. The official language of the Congress is English.

"Un numero sempre più grande di artisti che usano la ceramica, scelgono di non smaltare i propri pezzi" così inzia il libro di Jane Perryman tutto dedicato alle superfici non smaltate. Dalla terra sigillata alla steccatura, dall'aggiunta di ossidi agli impasti all'affumicatura questo testo pubblicato per la prima volta nel 2004, oggi ristampato con una nuova copertina, ci porta alla scoperta della creta "nuda". Spesso coperto, questo materiale nasconde sotto una coltre vetrosa le sue caratteristiche, la bellezza della porosità e le diverse sfumature. Usando tecniche diverse si riesce a dare ai pezzi una qualità unica sopratutto al tatto. La morbidezza della steccatura o le asperità di un corpo chamottato conferiscono carattere alle creazioni. Jane Perryman è una maestra nella realizzazione di pezzi "nudi", spesso levigate e affumicate le ciotole rimangono in equilibrio su ricurvi vassoi creando una tensione tra il passato e il presente.
Naked Clay
'A growing number of ceramic artists now choose not to glaze their work' this is the beginning of the worderful book from Jane Perryman entirely dedicated to unglazed surfaces. From terra sigillata to burnishing, from adding oxides to smoke firing, this book first published in 2004 today with a new cover, takes deep into the world of "naked" clay. Often covered by a thick layer of glass, the body hides its chatacter, the beauty of the surface and its different tones. By appling different tecniques, the pieces acquire a unique touch. The softness of burnishing or the harshness of a groggy body, work to create the desirable finish. Jane Perryman is an expert on creating 'naked' pieces, often burnished and smoked her bowls stand balance themselves past and present.

La sensibilità alla luce e la purezza la rendono un materiale unico che però sa trasformarsi creando risultati diversissimi. Kintsugi

L'Estetica degli Incidenti

Kintsugi vuol dire riparare con la lacca d'oro, questa pratica giapponese sembra sia nata intorno al XXV secolo, quando un famoso Shogun rimandò la citola a cui era molto affezionato in Cina per essere riparata. La ciotola ritornò con delle orribili graffe di metallo, così gli artigiani giapponesi dovettero inventare un metodo per riportare la ciotola al precendente splendore. Il risultato fu così bello che molti presero l'abitudine di far cadere le loro ceramiche affinchè venissero riparate. La tradizione del Kintsugi (il termine si riferisce alla lacca d'oro, ma le riparazioni possono essere di vari colori) ha permesso ad oggetti prima considerati scarti di venire ripresi e rinascere con un nuovo splendido aspetto.

The Aesthetic of Accidents

Kintsugi means "to patch with gold", this Japanese tecnique may have begun in the late 15th century, when a famous shogun sent a damaged Chinese tea bowl back to China to be fixed. It returned held together with ugly metal staples, so Japanese craftsmen had to find a form of repair that could make a broken piece look as good as new, or better. The results were so astonishing that Japanese collectors were accused of deliberately breaking prized ceramics, just to have them mended in gold. Kintsugi (only referring to gold lacquer, but the repairs can be made in different colors) had the great merit, to give new life to pots that were ready to be trashed reaching a new level of aestethic.

La Poesia del Bianco e Nero

Le ceramiche di Rupert Spira sono forma e sostanza combinate, la bellezza delle forme e la raffinatezza delle sue riflessioni si fondono creando un oggetto magico. Le iscrizioni bianche, che trapelano dallo smalto nero, sembrano prendere il volo e regalare ai suoi vasi una leggerezza irreale. Il piede delle ciotole ricorda le porcellane del perido Sung e non fa' che alimentare la predisposione dei pezzi al volo. Il fiume di parole spesso illegibile trasforma queti pezzi di argilla in evanescenti impressioni. Dal 15 al 17 Maggio a Londra, Spira sarà presente a Collect 2009, fiera dell'artigianato contemporaneo ospitata nel nuovo spazio della galleria Saatchi. I pezzi di Rupert Spira sono uno dei migliori esempi della magia che si crea quando arte e artigianato si fondono.

The Poetry of Black and White

Rupert Spira's ceramics are form and essence combined, the beauty of the form and the refinment of his words meet to create a magical object. The white inscriptions that filter through the dark glaze, are ready to fly away, adding to his vessels a lightness almost unreal. The foot of his bowls, directly from Sung's porcelains feeds their predisposition to fly. The flow of words, often impossible to decifre, transform these pieces in evanescent epyphanies. From the 15 to the 17 of May in London, Spira will be at Collect 2009, contemporary craft fair hosted in the new Saatchi Gallery's space. His pieces are definitely one of the best example of the fusion of art and craft.

Lucie Rie

La Dama della Ceramica

Lucie Rie è una delle figure più influenti della ceramica moderna. Nata a Vienna all'inizio del secolo, visse la maggior parte della sua vita a Londra, dove insieme ad Hans Cooper apri uno studio tra i più importanti del paese. Contemporanea del maestro assoluto della ceramica inglese Bernard Leach, anche Lucie Rie fu molto influenzata dalla ceramica orientale anche se i suoi pezzi conservano una sensibilità e una modernità unica. La Rie ha, nel corso della sua vita insegnato anche in prestigiosi college inglesi e ha continuato a lavorare fino ad una inoltrata vecchiaia. Le sue creazioni sono molto presenti in prestigiose collezioni in tutto il mondo compreso il famosissimo Museum of Modern Art di New York.

The Dame of Pottery

Lucie Rie is one of the most influential figures in modern ceramics. Born at the begginig of the 20th century in Vienna, she lived and worked most of her years in London, where toghether with Hans Cooper started one of the most important studio pottery across the country. Living at the same time of Bernard Leach, "maestro" of english studio potters, she was deeply affected by oriental ceramics, but her creations maintained a unique sensitivity and modernity. Lucie Rie, during her life, taught in very prestigiuos colleges of London and kept working until very late in her years. Her work is present in several collections across the world included the ultra famous Museum of Modern Art in New York.
