The Familiar Unknown

"Big Baby" by Anne Drew Potter, 2009, Ceramic and Cloth

The Perception of Reality

Blue Star Contemporary Art Centre, in San Antonio Texas, has hosted a very interesting show. Four artists, all women, succeeded in challenging our ideas of reality and of a ceramic exhibition.
Susan Beiner, Rebekah Bogard, Rebecca Hutchinson, Anne Drew Potter used clay often mixed with other materials in a very strong and different way. Hutchinson and Beiner played around with the concept of nature and how we perceive it. Potter and Bogard gave a personal view on relationship and social stereotypes. With the use of exaggeration and irony they construct a new reality and a new path for contemporary ceramics.
Highly recommend the reading of Critical Ceramics, in general and in particular about this show.
