WHITE - GOLD - PORCELAIN

11. März 2012 WEISS - GOLD - PORZELLAN - WHITE - GOLD - PORCELAIN

The words WHITE - GOLD - CHINA build an associative chain. Each term generates its own memories. The achromatic color white stands for purity - innocence - virginity - infinity.

Gold, the noble metal with his unique flair - wealth. Porcelain - the white gold is a special material in contemporary jewelry. The unusual technique to burn china with silver
, chains to be made of porcelain and the virtuosity of the ramification in silver.

Anna Kiryakova (BG), Violaine Ulmer (F) and Zwetelina Alexieva (BG) show works on the subject.

The vernissage will take place Sunday the 11th March 2012 12:00 to 19:00 in the workshop gallery of contemporary jewelery and design - Ariane Hartmann on the Eppenhauserstr. 14, 58093 Hagen.

Shu-Lin WU's residency in Talavera

Coincidences...
the other night while enjoying the exhibition of Maria Bofill I noticed a porcelain earring, very beautiful, that I had posted on my blog some time ago. The earring, and the ear, belonged to Taiwanese artist Shu-lin Wu that was in Madrid while on a residency at Escuela de Artes de Talavera
toghether with ceramist artists Lin  Lung-Chie e Tswng Shu-Ling.
Here is the work she made during the stay and a description of her work

"As a Taiwanese female artist with European background, my jewelry underlines my
orient/occident crossing cultural perception. My work is a language without words.
It is the object involves history and culture. It bridges a person from a touch of skin
to the rest of the world. Therefore, my jewelry talks for me. It communicates my
personal traveling experience and private life stories to viewers.

During my residency in Talavera de la Reina, I have developed 2 series of works:
in the “Seasonal Memory - Autumn” series, I created the pieces which contain my
memories of this season-autumn. By using the local material and combining different
materials such as metal wire and nature material, I tried to find a balance between
the “Gift from the Nature” and the ‘human-world. The other series “Mon Coeur (my
heart)”, I played with the very popular “heart symbol”. The form becomes a media to
express my personal identity as a female artist from Asia."

A Bit of Clay on the Skin

Evert Nijland

A Bit of Clay on the Skin: New Ceramic Jewelry
March 15 - September 4, 2011
2 Columbus Circle, New York, NY 10019

Peter Hogeboom

Shu-Lin Wu

A Bit of Clay on the Skin: New Ceramic Jewelry
explores the manifold appeal of ceramics, especially porcelain, in jewelry. Organized by the Fondation d'Entreprise Bernardaud and curated by the renowned German-born goldsmith and jewelry artist Monika Brugger, the exhibition showcases the versatility and allure of the medium, which can be modeled or cast, used alone or with metal, wood, and stone, and vary in color and texture. Best known as the stuff of the luxurious and the mundane, of fine tableware and technical equipment, when used in jewelry, porcelain sparks the visual and physical sensations to become an object of desire.

The exhibition showcases the scope and ingenuity of the more than one hundred works on view and features the work of 18 cutting-edge jewelry artists, including creations by such notables as Peter Hoogeboom, Evert Nijland, Ted Noten (The Netherlands), Gésine Hackenberg (Germany), Marie Pendariès (Spain), and Shu-Lin Wu (Taiwan). While some make reference to traditional jewelry in materials and symbolism, others altogether redefine it in substance, form, and matter.
