Oggi grazie a un giovane ceramista amico di CV ho fatto una meravigliosa scoperta !!!
Schwarm è una collezione di vasi-scarabei in porcellana multicolore commisionata da Thomas Eyck e realizzata dagli artisti Beate Reinheimer and Ulrike Rehm (RaR).
Thomas Eyck  è il curatore della parte di design del Zuiderzee Museum Enkhuizen e lavora con artigiani e artisti nella creazione di oggetti unici, anche nel prezzo.
 

Thomas Eyck introduce "schwarm", una nuova collezione di vasi in porcellana pensati da RaR. Questa collezione è formata da 63  scarabei smaltati in colori differenti in una edizione limitata di 40 unità ciascuno.

Rar hanno preso 10 scarabei differenti e li hanno rifatti smaltandoli con effetti diversi in modo da ricreare un mondo unico, una viaggio alla scoperta del mondo naturale e dell'arte

Today thanks to a young friend of CV I discovered this real wonders of the craft world.
Schwarm is a collection of bettles made of porcelain and caledoscopic glazes. Made by artists Beate Reinheimer and Ulrike Rehm (RaR) they are part of a series of wonderful objects commisioned by Thomas Eyck, publisher and distributer of characteristic and exclusive contemporary design products and the curator of design for the Zuiderzee Museum Enkhuizen.

Thomas Eyck introduces "schwarm", a new collection of porcelain vases designed by RaR. This collection consists of 63 different glazed porcelain beetles in a limited and numbered edition of 40 pieces each."schwarm" (swarm) was born out of the designers fascination for the diversity in natural fauna collections. Within these collections extremely small differences give reason to distinguish one animal from another. This quality inspired RaR to take 10 different type of beetles and reshaped them. Each model is glazed in different techniques such as effect, metal and shrinking glaze. Looking at this swarm of beetles is like a voyage of discovery in the world of art and nature.

Inaugura giovedì 17 la decima edizione de la Bienal de Manises che ha sede presso il Museu de Ceràmica de Manises, città in provincia di Valencia nota per la ceramica. Per il concorso è stata selezionata anche una giovane artista italiana che lavora a Madrid Clara Graziolino, l'opera è un murales in refrattaria montato su legno ha titolo "Silenzio, archivio delle cose non dette"
In contemporanea apre la mostra  "Miguel Angel Gil. El Vigilante Vigilado"

On thursday the 17th opens the 10th edition of the Bienal de Manises. Manises is a city close to Valencia well known for its ceramics heritage and for its Museu de Ceramica. Clara Graziolino, an italian artist based in Madrid, has been selected  for the competition, her work is a wall piece named "Silence, archive of unsaid things".

On the evening will also open the exhibition "Miguel Angel Gil. El Vigilante Vigilado" at the Museu de Cèramica.

Ecco che dalle ceneri della Galerie Besson nasce una nuova galleria.  La linea di continuità è abbastanza chiara, uno dei fondatori è l'ex manager di Galerie Besson, ma siamo tutti contenti che ci siano degli eredi !Allora si parte come si era terminato ( o quasi ) con Michikawa

SHOZO MICHIKAWA

Erskine, Hall & Coe's inaugural exhibition is of pots by the Japanese artist Shozo Michikawa.

Shozo Michikawa lives and works in Seto, a home to potters for 1300 years. His work has been exhibited internationally, including a landmark exhibition in 2005 in Beijing's Forbidden City.

This exhibition will comprise of twenty-five works, the majority from his latest firing.

Angus Stewart, in an essay accompanying the exhibition, declares:

"... Michikawa's originality calls out for attention. He offers freshness, technical prowess and figurative puzzles that irk and stimulate the alert. The traditions he draws on date back to the cave dwellers. Michikawa's excellence as a technician, his empathy with natural phenomena, and his outstanding artistry, are something to shout about."

GALLERY OPENING

Erskine, Hall & Coe is a new gallery formed by Matthew Hall, James Erskine and David Coe.

Matthew was formerly at Galerie Besson. James Erskine and David Coe are founders of The Liverpool Street Gallery and SEL - a major sports & entertainment group based in Sydney.

The gallery will focus on exhibiting ceramics, both 20th Century and Contemporary, but will also explore the interplay between paintings and ceramics.

Erskine, Hall & Coe is located at 15 Royal Arcade, London. The home for the last 23 years of Galerie Besson.

Anita Besson welcomes the announcement, saying:
“...I am very pleased that ceramics will continue to be represented in central London and wish the new venture every success.”

The New Artisans

Mi era già caduto l'occhio su questo libro uscito di fresco, l'argomento del Neo-Artigiano mi interessa particolarmente ma il look modaiolo mi rendeva titubante. L'autore Olivier Dupon ha un passato nella moda ( e si vede !) ma al momento si dedica alla rinascita dell'artigianato creativo dal suo blog Dossier37.
Ieri mi è capitato fra le mani e devo dire che malgrado non lo abbia comprato ( un altro libro è nella lista d'attesa), ho passato un po' di tempo a spulciarlo. 

Il look fa' un po' troppo rivista di moda e tutto le foto hanno un po' lo stesso stile, piacevole ma alla fine sembrano tutti uguali. Ed è un peccato perchè i 75 artigiani sono veramente bravi, e i loro prodotti meritano attenzione. La ceramica è ben rappresentata, c'è Mel Robson, IKUKO Iwamoto, Sissel Wathne ecc...insomma se vi capita dategli un' occhiata. Su FB c'è la pagina del libro con info e interviste x comparlo c'è il buon vecchio Amazon o Thames and Hudson

This book had already caught my eyes at first, finally yesterday I had the time to go through it. The book is cute, maybe even too cute (I like a bit nitty gritty !!!) but the 75 artisans are good as gold. These re-invention of the artisan is an interesting topic, that is very close to my heart, so welcome to this new book by blogger Olivier Dupon! (check his blog Dossier37)

Ceramics are well represented in the book with names like  Mel Robson, IKUKO Iwamoto, Sissel Wathne...
well it's defenetly worth more than a look !

JORNADA DE CERAMICA MULTIMEDIA CON ANTONIO VIVAS

Oggi ho partecipato a una di quegli eventi che tanto mi piacciono e di cui sento spesso la mancanza. La Escuela de Ceramica Francisco Alcantara di Madrid, nel corso delle celebrazioni per il centenario ospitava per l'intera giornata l'esimio Antonio Vivas. Antonio è il fondatore e direttore della La Revista Ceramica (ve la consiglio caldamente, sul web offre moltissime notizie interessanti) ed è un vero esperto in materia, oltre che un vero amante della ceramica. La giornata era scandita da innumerevoli filmati, dal raku giapponese alla performance di Barcelò, belli, interessanti, incredibilmente diversi, una meraviglia !

Purtroppo ho perso la sessione pomeridiana e me ne rammarico, sono filmati difficili da reperire (la dice lunga l'ultima esperienza con la BBC) che Antonio ha messo insieme creando una collezione incredibile, che invidia !

The Language of Ceramics

E' da molto che voglio scrivere questo post, ma continuavo ad aspettare il momento sperando di elaborare le mie idee in maniera più razionale. Non credo che questo sia il momento giusto, ma sento il bisogno di condividere questo argomento che sembra essere diventato imprescindibile. La critica d'Arte ha un suo linguaggio vero e proprio, ricco di codici e riferimenti. E' un linguaggio costruito, che si è evoluto di pari passo con la mutazione delle opere artistiche. L'arte contemporanea non sarebbe pensabile senza una sua critica, senza una sua interpretazione (a mio avviso non sempre adatta, ma a suo modo piacevole, come fosse un'opera nell'opera).

Anche la ceramica necessita di una sua lingua per comunicare ?
Sbagliamo affidandoci unicamente alla forza delle forme ?
Basta raccontare la storia di un'opera per esaurire le parole?

Mi piace parlare di ceramica e mi piace scriverne anche se spesso mi interrogo sulla forma più corretta, vigliaccamente mi oriento sul descrittivo o sul tecnico, ma vorrei di più!
Non mi piace chi prende ad uso le parole della critica d'Arte per parlare di ceramica, anche perchè non essendo un mestiere facile, il risultato è spesso irrilevante e noioso. Ma comincio a sentire il bisogno di avere degli strumenti per comunicare i tanti aspetti di questa arte. Siamo rimasti indietro ?

CENTENARIO DE LA ESCUELA DE CERÁMICA DE MADRID 1911-2011

Una tappa obbligata per l'inserimento ceramico a Madrid, era una visita alla Escuela de Arte Francisco Alcantara alla Moncloa.
In realtà, oltre al piacere di visitare una scuola storica (quest'anno celebra 100 anni !) mi ero recata lì con un intento preciso...la ricerca dello studio!
La Scuola infatti ha una bacheca dove vengono appesi annunci e varie informazioni, ma sono rimasta un po' delusa. C'erano due possibilità, ma non erano quello che cercavo, allora ho lasciato un messaggio e un biglietto nella speranza di essere ricontattata.
La zona dove sorge la scuola è meravigliosa, si trova a ridosso del Parque del Oueste, circondata da verde e immersa in un bellissimo giardino disegnato dal paesaggista Javier de Winthuysen.
Tutto meraviglioso ma poco accessibile, poche informazioni, niente seminari o corsi brevi, insomma mi aspettavo di meglio. Peccato perchè la scuola è fucina di grandi talenti come María Oriza e Gregorio Peño
ma io non sono riuscita a cavarci molto, in compenso c'è un blog e un sito che ci tengono aggiornati. Ma credo che ritornerò quando il mio spagnolo sarà migliore e qundo avrò trovato lo studio ( così da rimuovere il mio biglietto !)
p.s.
ho poi scoperto che le scuole sono due, una di fronte all'altra (mi sentivo già brava ad averne trovata una ma la seconda ...non me l' aspettavo) e che si fanno concorrenza ! E poi parliamo di Guelfi e Ghibellini !!

As I was wondering around Madrid looking for a studio, I thought about paying a visit to the escuela ceramica de Madrid, someone had mention a useful noticeboard ...

The Escuela de Arte Francisco Alcantara was founded in 1911 by Francisco Alcantara Jurado, an innovator in pedagogy linked to the most progressive movements of the day. He was also a prestigious art critic, teacher and painter who dedicated a great part of his life to reviving the ceramic tradition, an interest that culminated in the founding of this school.
 The school is situated in the beautiful Oeste park on the new Pasillo Verde gardens. It is located beside the old La Moncloa ceramics factory (from which it conserves the original oven) and the San Antonio de La Florida hermitage. The building itself, the Pabellon Bellido, is a spectacular work with gardens designed by the landscape gardener Javier de Winthuysen.

The school was really amazing but it seemed that not much was going on, I was hoping to find seminars, short courses or lectures, especially because this year the school celebrates its 100 yrs (have a look at the blog,  but is not very active)!! Never mind, I made other interesting connections...(to be continued)

British Ceramics Biennial is back!!!

Torna uno degli eventi più ricchi del panorama ceramico, purtroppo rivolto unicamente a ceramisti del regno unito. Il festival Biennale della Ceramica Britannica in questi giorni è in pieno fermento, la zona di Stoke on Trent (sede, per altro, della famosissima fabbrica Wedgewood) è popolata da numerosissimi eventi, ci sono i premi, le esposizioni, le visite guidate, i seminari, workshops, open studios e chi più ne ha...più ne metta. Prima o poi vado anche io!!!

Per il momento mi accontento di seguirlo on-line e se qualcuno fosse interessato c'è un concorso anche per gli stranieri  "Writing Prize", organizzato dalla rivista Ceramic Review per scoprire e stimolare la nuova critica ceramica...

‘BOTANICA’ is a collection of new works by the internationally acclaimed Brazilian artist Valeria Nascimento. Valeria, whose chosen media is porcelain, has produced an outstanding selection of new work specifically for her solo-exhibition at the Woolff Gallery, London. The artist will use the 2 floors of gallery space to present an extensive variety of porcelain artworks, from single wall mounted pieces, to multiple wall mounted and free standing installations.

‘Botanica’, the Portuguese word for Botanical, refers to Nascimento’s inspiration drawn from the natural world. Her work delicately mirrors the repetition of nature in a contemporary style, she has been working with porcelain and developing this style over the last 25 years.

Valeria Nascimento has created installations and artworks for Tiffany & Co, Wedgewood, & Channel, as well as for a number of high-profile private collectors. Nascimento has exhibited extensively throughout Europe, Brazil and the USA.
