John Evans, master of alternatives firings, is giving a worskshop in May. From the 20th to the 23rd in Angmering a pretty Sussex village ,in the U.K. The focus will be on glaze-resist raku, aka 'naked raku', with an introduction to horse-hair raku, ferric chloride in tin-foil saggars, and using various chemical salts in paper-slip saggars. The workshop will look at the use of burnishing and terra sigillata to provide the smooth and polished surface ideal for these 'naked clay' techniques. There will be tips on how to make work for successful firing, how to achieve those solid blacks and whites and the use of colour in naked raku. We will look at different resist techniques suitable for enhancing your own work when 'painting with smoke'
