An auction of contemporary studio ceramics raising funds for the Craft Potters Charitable Trust
19th January—11th February 2012
January 2012 launches the second stage of the appeal for funds to develop the Contemporary Ceramics Centre. Funding the Future is an exhibition and auction featuring exclusive pieces donated by over 100 artists and will be an unique opportunity to see and to buy something very special.
Karen Bunting, CPA chair explains: “Funding the Future... is to raise funds for the development of all aspects of this ceramics centre and to create a successful and viable education programme based at Great Russell Street and at other venues around the country as appropriate... We have plans to develop training and career development, opportunities for makers at all stages of their careers and to encourage a wider appreciation of handmade ceramics. We believe that this will help to secure the future of British studio ceramics”.

L'ultimo post era tutto dedicato a una ceramica molto minimalista di stampo orientale, ma la ceramica ha tante espressioni, diverse ma ugualmente affascinanti.
Il lavoro di Kate Malone è molto lontano dal minimalismo, è un mondo popolato da piante e frutti misteriosi e coloratissimi. Vasi grandi, enormi, panciuti, spinosi, smalti che colano, colori che si sovrappongono, cristalli, rami, riccioli, boccioli e chi più ne ha...
Ho ritrovato il suo lavoro in una serie bellissima di video che raccontano la creazione e lo sviluppo di una serie di questi meragliosi "vasoni". I suoi vasi le assomigliano in maniera incredibile, per forza vitalità e colore. Potete dare un'occhiata anche alla foto della sua ultima mostra, dove ci sono i vasi dei video, del Novembre 2010 nella galleria di Londra di Robilant+Voena.
Godetevi la visione e se volete approfondire c'è un libro (un po' datato) scritto nel 2003 insieme a Lesley Jackson: Kate Malone: A Book of Pots. Il libro traccia la storia di questa fantastica e innovativa ceramista, delle sue abilità tecniche e dei suoi meravigliosi smalti (pare ne abbia creato più di 1.000!!) Potete dare un'occhiata anche alla foto della sua ultima mostra, del Novembre 2010 nella galleria di Londra di Robilant+Voena.

KATE MALONE: New Work @ Robilant+Voena

My last post was entirely to a wonderful hue of a minimalist style of ceramics. At the other end of the creative spectrum there is the vibrant, dynamic and colourful work of Kate Malone. A real innovator among the contemporary taste, often tending to very similar models, Malone challenges nature (and gravity), with gigantic fruit-shaped pots of multiple colours. Her pots become human-like, everyone with its distinctive character and personality. Tall and slim, round and short, spiky and smooth, the seem to flourish eternally. Her work is splendidly documented in a series of videos that document the making of a number of large pots for her exhibition in November 2010 at Robilant+Voena in London. If you are interested there is a book written by Malone with Lesley Jackson, Kate Malone: A Book of Pots. The book follows the evolution of her dynamic career with 321 full-color photographs, and also reveals many of her innovations, detailing the specific techniques, glazes, and tools used in her work. I've heard she has a library of more than 1000 glazes !!!
