Rita Miranda alla Galleria AbOvo

"Tutto debutta dalla sfera o dall'”ovo” (come avrebbe detto Fontana). Tutto inizia e si conclude nel cerchio magico della misura, dell'armonia, dell'ordine: una ciotola, un calice, un riccio. A patto, però, di ritenere questi nomi di cose (o di animali) come pure allusioni e non come richiami a profili consueti, a segni riconoscibili. Tutto il lavoro di Rita Miranda non mira mai a cogliere una forma definita, ma solo una congettura di forma. I suoi sono degli enunciati, mai delle dimostrazioni. Se ha qualcosa da esprimere, lo fa alla maniera dell'antico vasaio che lascia la traccia delle dita strisciate sull'argilla, quasi a testimonianza del proprio “esserci”. Una registrazione che sa di mito, di divinità esoterica, di mistero..."

Apre il 19 Giugno nella bellissima Todi la mostra "980° C " Raku e Natura nella Ceramica di Rita Miranda. Le opere realizzate mediante l'antica tecnica giapponese del Raku, saranno presentate negli spazi della Galleria AbOvo, dove manufatto e arte si fondono per riportarci alle origine della creazione.














On the 19th the Galleria AbOvo in charming Todi opens an exhibition with the work of italian artists Rita Miranda. Her forms reminde us of creatures from the underwater world, their roundness is decorated with the antique raku technique.

Sustain Ceramics usa i prodotti di scarto delle industrie locali per realizzare nuove ed eccitanti creazioni. Polvere di mattoni, vecchi vetri delle macchine, piatti rotti, prendono nuova vita nelle abili mani di Sarah Jerath. Sustain Ceramic is a beautiful project that raises questions on our dear materials. In our everyday life we are (hopefully) making changes in order to lessen our impact on the planet, so it's time to tackle our practice and make it greener !
Sustain Ceramic uses the by-products of local industries to create new and exciting objects. Brick dust, crushed window screen, broken ceramic plates are given new life by the wonderful hands of Sarah Jerath. The forms are inspired by nature, varying from sculptural pieces to more decorative objects and jewellery.

Gallery at Bevere, è una di quelle realtà inglesi che molto invidio, uno spazio alla periferia di Worchester che rappresenta il meglio della ceramica contemporanea e dello Studio Pottery. La galleria ha dei bellissimi spazi ed è molto attiva con mostre e on line. Supportata dall'Art Council e dal Craft Council, questa realtà porta artisti internazionali in una realta più intima, fuori dai grandi centri e incoraggia l'interdiscipilinarità ospitanto insieme alla ceramica dipinti e stampe di diversi artisti.

A Potter's Book by Bernard Leach

"...la sincerità è la cosa importante, e secondo il grado di forza vitale del ceramista e della sua cultura che fluisce attraverso di lui nel processo creativo, il vaso risultante avrà vita in esso o no"

Queste sono le parole di Bernard Leach, maestro ceramista e padre della ceramica inglese moderna. leach era nato in Cina, era stato educato in Inghilterra e successivamente era tornato in estremo oriente per insegnare tecniche di incisione. Nel 1911, ad una festa in un giardino a Tokyo vide gli ospiti decorare e cuocere vasi con la tecnica Raku. Questa esperienza lo segnò e presto trovò un maestro ceramista Kenzan VI e studiò duramente presso di lui fino alla morte di quest'ultimo. Leach e Tomimoto, un altro studente esplorarono la fusione tra la ceramica inglese e le tecniche raku. Negli anni '20 tornò in Inghilterra dove cominciò il suo sodalizio con il maestro giapponese Shoji Hamada e nacque la celebre Leach Pottery. Bernard Leach ha fatto più di qualunche altro per la ceramica moderna non solo in termini di tecniche, la sua attenzione dava alla ceramica un'aspetto in più, non solo artigianato ma anche filosofia.

Bernard Leach was born in Hong Kong, he was educated in England and later returned to Japan as a teacher of etching techniques. In 1911, at a garden party in Tokyo, he saw guests decorating raku pots and fired them, this experience had a great impact on him. Leach studyied under the direction of Shigekichi Urano (Kenzan VI), there he met Tomimoto, another of Kenzan’s students, together they explored the fusion of English pottery traditions with Raku. When he returned to England in 1920 he established the famous Leach Pottery with another Japanese artist and potter, Shoji Hamada. Leach’s fame spread over the years, and now he is recognized as the major influence in modern pottery all over the world.
This is his most famous book, with plenty of technical information, but most importantly with his vision on ceramics.

Gwyn Hassen Pigott è un'artista meravigliosa, le sue composizioni ricordano i più bei quadri di Morandi. I suoi gruppi di porcellano declinano le tonalità più tenui di smalti cotti a legna. Chiaramente influenzata dalla tradizione orientale, il suo lavoro durante la sua lunga carriera si è evoluto diventando sempre più essenziale. Ceramista Australiana, la Hassen Pigott si è formata intorno agli anni '50 in Inghilterra presso la St Ives Pottery di Bernard Leach, dove ha condiviso l'ammirazione di Leach per gli smalti della civiltà Song.

Gwyn Hassen Pigott is an amazing artists, her translucent porcelain composition reminds of the still life painting by Giorgio Morandi. The quality of her work is visible through the beauty of her soft coloured palette. Her wood fired glazes are inspired by the ceramic from the Song's Dynasty, and influence she breathed during the apprentice at Bernard Leach pottery in St Ives. Her work is on show at Galerie Besson from the 9th of June
