Astrée from Grégoire Scalabre on Vimeo. Astrée è opera del ceramista francese Gregoire Scalabre. Prende il nome da un mitico galeone della Compagnia delle Indie Orientali naufragato con un prestigioso carico di porcellana. Scalabre immagina che questa porcellana dopo un secolo di vita marina si sia trasformata in una colonia di originali forme e colori. L'opera è composta da più 10.000 miniature create al tornio e smaltate in un incredibile gamma di colori provenienti dalla manifattura di Sèvres.
Astrée is an incredible piece by french ceramist Gregoire Scalabre, the piece is created in honor of a famous galleon of the East India Company wrecked with a mythical shipment of porcelain. Scalabre imagines that after all this time, these precious pieces have developed an original civilization of shapes and colors.
Over 10,000 miniatures, patiently thrown one by one by Gregory Scalabre are glazed in shades of incredible colours from Sevres looks like marine inflorescence, all different, like living beings.

CV: Che aspetto della tua personalità ti è più utile nel tuo lavoro?
MN: Passione, ottimismo, e amore per la ceramica
CV: Qual'e il tuo pezzo in ceramica preferito?
MN: le figurine del '700 di Meissen. Quando le guardo, sono sempre strabiliata. La combinazione tra le abiltà dei vecchi ceramisti, l'apparenza sofisticata e un po' di humor li rende veramente preziosi.CV: Da cosa trai ispirazione?
MN: Le fiabe, i mercatini, gli antiquari, le chiacchere con amici di diverse provenienze, la meditazione e il mio albero segreto a Hyde Park.
CV: Se potessi scegliere dove vivere/lavorare nel mondo, dove andresti?
MN: LONDRA LONDRA LONDRA ! Quetsa città mi ha dato molte cose: grandi amici, lo studio, le oppurtinità di lavoro, l'ispirazione ecc...IO AMO LONDRA per la diversità culturale, per il contrasto tra tradizione e innovazione. Vivere e lavorare a Londra mi ispira e mi elettrizza, ma il problema è la stagione invernale. Idealmente vivrei in un'isole tropicale con fiori tropicali, un bellissimo mare e un sole splendente durante l'inverno...e a Londra il resto del tempo.
CV: Il tuo migliore e il peggiore momento ceramico
MN: Il peggiore è quando sto combattendo con un nuovo lavoro e una nuova idea. Mi sento uno schifo.
Il momento migliore è quando visualizzo quello che voglio creare in ceramica, e quando apro il forno e i pezzi sono venuti bene, non sono religiosa, ma nei mei momenti migliori, apprezzo sempre il "dio della Ceramica".
Makiko ha in programma una mostra il 14 di Giugno 2012 alla ICN gallery di Londra e partecipa ad un negozio pop up alla Somerset House
Makiko Nakamura is London based ceramic artist, born and raised In Japan.
After graduated Royal College of Art, Makiko has started her career as designer maker.
'Imbue the fantasy to our daily life' is Makiko's creations slogan.
Makiko has worked with ceramics in both art and design context with huge love and appreciation to the ceramics.
Making
narrative one-off art pieces that have fantasy stories behind them. At
the same time, making tableware that are focused on function and
design.
Also doing many projects with the companies such as Alexander McQueen, Querida.inc etc

MN: Decorative, delicate, poetic, narrative, shiny
CV: What aspect of your personality is more useful in your practice?
MN:
passion, optimism,and love for the ceramics
CV: What is your favourite ceramic piece of all times ?
MN: eighteenth centuries MEISSEN'S figurines.
When I look at them, I am always always amazed.
The combination of ancient potters' great skills, sophisticated appearance and little bit of humor makes them really precious.
CV: Where do you get your inspiration from?
MN: Fairy tales, flea market, Antique shop, chat with friends who have different back ground, meditation, and my secret and favourite tree in Hyde park.
CV: If you could choose where to live/work in the world, where would you go?
MN: LONDON LONDON LONDON! This city gave me a lot of things: great friends, education, business opportunity, inspiration etc etc...
I LOVE LONDON for its cultural diversity, contrast between tradition and innovation.
Living and Working in London is so inspiring and thrilling(in good way).
but the problem is... winter season. Ideally live in tropical island with tropical flower, beautiful sea and bright sunshine during winter time and live in London rest of time.
CV: Your worst and your best ceramic moment
MN: worst moment is when i am struggling with new works with new concept. I feel like I am rubbish.
The best moment is the moment I can visualize what I wanted to create by ceramics.
and when I open the kiln and find the pieces are fired nicely.
I am not religious person, but in my best ceramic moment, I always appreciate to the 'God of Ceramics'.

Christmas is getting closer and I am already thinking of what I'd like to find wrapped under the tree.
"The Pot Book" the new book from acclaimed author and elegant potter Edmund de Waal is surely on my wish list. Edited by Phaidon (can't go wrong!) this book is a great documentation of the art of ceramics. I've already made the space on my bedside table !!!

An essential part of our lives it has been moulded, thrown, glazed, decorated and fired for over 30,000 years in order to preserve and transport food and water. Shu-Lin WU's residency in Talavera
Wu Shu-Lin insieme a Lin Lung-Chie e Tswng Shu-Ling sono stati ospiti della scuola spagnola per 6 settimane producendo nuovi lavori esposti in una mostra nella bella città. Purtroppo la mostra è terminata ma queste sono alcune foto che mi ha mandato Wu Shu-Lin.

Coincidences...the other night while enjoying the exhibition of Maria Bofill I noticed a porcelain earring, very beautiful, that I had posted on my blog some time ago. The earring, and the ear, belonged to Taiwanese artist Shu-lin Wu that was in Madrid while on a residency at Escuela de Artes de Talavera
toghether with ceramist artists Lin Lung-Chie e Tswng Shu-Ling.
Here is the work she made during the stay and a description of her work
"As a Taiwanese female artist with European background, my jewelry underlines my
orient/occident crossing cultural perception. My work is a language without words.
It is the object involves history and culture. It bridges a person from a touch of skin
to the rest of the world. Therefore, my jewelry talks for me. It communicates my
personal traveling experience and private life stories to viewers.
During my residency in Talavera de la Reina, I have developed 2 series of works:
in the “Seasonal Memory - Autumn” series, I created the pieces which contain my
memories of this season-autumn. By using the local material and combining different
materials such as metal wire and nature material, I tried to find a balance between
the “Gift from the Nature” and the ‘human-world. The other series “Mon Coeur (my
heart)”, I played with the very popular “heart symbol”. The form becomes a media to
express my personal identity as a female artist from Asia."

Le Ceramic Event est une initiative des Ateliers galerie de L’Ô.
Son ambition est d’éveiller l’intérêt, de susciter des rencontres,
de faire découvrir et partager la passion de la céramique.Lors des deux premières éditions, le Ceramic Event se voulait « Small but beautiful» et comptait une dizaine d’artistes céramistes.
En 2011, le Ceramic Event s’est agrandit.
Un Marché céramique a vu le jour et accueilli plus de 30 participants.
Une exposition « Tendances » a invité une dizaine de céramistes à présenter leurs dernière créations dans l’espace des Ateliers galerie de l’Ô.
Afin de faire découvrir la céramique contemporaine à un public toujours plus large,
le Ceramic Event s’associe à la biennale Parcours d’artistes de Saint-Gilles.
Le Parcours d’artistes de Saint-Gilles est un événement phare de la vie culturelle bruxelloise. Durant tout le mois de mai, quelque 400 artistes ouvrent leurs ateliers
et accueillent plus de 30.000 de visiteurs.
En 2012, le Ceramic Event s’inscrit dans la foulée de l’événement
