Ruth Duckworth e la Ceramica Modernista
Ruth Duckworth è una delle ceramiste più rappresentative di quella sensibilità artistica, diventata corrente, conosciuta con il nome di Modernismo. Le sue opere, dalle installazioni più grandi alle più piccole porcellane, ispirate da forme primitive, rilevano una delicatezza e una sensibilità unica. Nata nel 1919 in Germania, ma presto fuggita a causa dell'avvento del nazismo Ruth Duckworth si forma artisticamente in Inghilterra, dove assorbirà l'influenza di scultori come Henry Moore e Barbara Hepworth.
Negli anni '60 si trasferisce in America per 13 anni, dove realizza i suoi lavori più grandi, le installazioni e le opere murali come il celebre: "Clouds over Lake Michigan". Malgrado la grandiosità e l'innovazione di queste grandi sculture, rimango continuamente affascinata dai suoi lavori più piccoli realizzati in porcellana monocroma e talmente levigata da sembrare realizzati in osso, resistono come moderni totem.

Ruth Duckworth is one of the most representative potter that followed that current, later named Modernism. Her work from the big installations to the small scale porcelains, take inspiration from the form of primitive art and reveal a uncommon sensitivity and lightness. Born in 1919 in Hamburg, moved to England in her early years because of the Nazi coming to power, and experience the influence of sculptor such as Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth. In 1960 Ruth Duckworth moved for a period of 13 years to the States, where she worked on her biggest pieces like the wall piece "Clouds over Lake Michigan". Despite the magnificence and the innovative strength of this big scale pieces, I found her smaller porcelains continuously intriguing. With a surface so polish as to resemble bone, they stand like modern idols.
