Richard Slee: From Utility to Futility

Non avrei voluto più parlare del V&A, per non creare terribili invidie ma non riesco a farne a meno.
Oltre a quello di cui abbiamo già parlato, le sale infondo all'ultimo piano sono dedicate al Grand Wizard della ceramica Richard Slee. Slee ha sempre frequentato sia il mondo dell'artigianato che quello dell'arte senza farsi troppi problemi, giocando con ironia sulla realtà. In questa mostra personale Slee riempie le nove vetrine dedicate alle mostre temporanee, con oggetti legati al fai da te, seghe, martelli, scope...trasformati da arnesi in oggetti da ammirare, attentamente sistemati e dai colori sgargianti. Mi fa pensare all'inutilità dell'uomo rispetto alla vita ma forse è solo una mia lettura. Here we go again with the V&A... sorry it seems to be a new obsession I can't do without. On the floor of the ceramics gallery there is a new space for temporary exhibitions that was showing some works of Richard Slee. From Utility to Futility, this is the title of the solo show, is a collection of Diy tools transformed in coloured objects to look at. Saws, hammers and brooms seem to make fun of us from their shiny glasscases. Made to the point of perfection, Slee claims to be an obsessed perfectionist, these tools are decorative but useless. Irony is typical trait of Slee's work, he cleverly hides concepts under layers of colorful glazes, going from craft to fine art and back. Have a look at his site http://www.richardslee.com
