Makiko Nakamura è una artista/ceramista di casa a Londra, ma nata e cresciuta in Giappone. Dopo essersi laureata al prestigioso Royal Collage of Art, Makiko ha cominciato la sua carriera di "designer maker" (questo è il neologismo creato dagli anglosassoni per i creativi/artigiani o neo-artigiani ). Mi sono piaciute molto le sue creazioni dai gioielli agli oggetti per la casa. Makiko ha lavorato anche con pezzi grossi come Alexander McQueen, Querida.inc ecc

MN: Decorative, delicate, poetiche, narrative, lucide
CV: Che aspetto della tua personalità ti è più utile nel tuo lavoro?
MN: Passione, ottimismo, e amore per la ceramica
CV: Qual'e il tuo pezzo in ceramica preferito?
MN: le figurine del '700 di Meissen. Quando le guardo, sono sempre strabiliata. La combinazione tra le abiltà dei vecchi ceramisti, l'apparenza sofisticata e un po' di humor li rende veramente preziosi.
CV: Da cosa trai ispirazione?
MN: Le fiabe, i mercatini, gli antiquari, le chiacchere con amici di diverse provenienze, la meditazione e il mio albero segreto a Hyde Park.
CV: Se potessi scegliere dove vivere/lavorare nel mondo, dove andresti?
MN: LONDRA LONDRA LONDRA ! Quetsa città mi ha dato molte cose: grandi amici, lo studio, le oppurtinità di lavoro, l'ispirazione ecc...IO AMO LONDRA per la diversità culturale, per il contrasto tra tradizione e innovazione. Vivere e lavorare a Londra mi ispira e mi elettrizza, ma il problema è la stagione invernale. Idealmente vivrei in un'isole tropicale con fiori tropicali, un bellissimo mare e un sole splendente durante l'inverno...e a Londra il resto del tempo.
CV: Il tuo migliore e il peggiore momento ceramico
MN: Il peggiore è quando sto combattendo con un nuovo lavoro e una nuova idea. Mi sento uno schifo.
Il momento migliore è quando visualizzo quello che voglio creare in ceramica, e quando apro il forno e i pezzi sono venuti bene, non sono religiosa, ma nei mei momenti migliori, apprezzo sempre il "dio della Ceramica".

Makiko Nakamura is London based ceramic artist, born and raised In Japan.
After graduated Royal College of Art, Makiko has started her career as designer maker.
'Imbue the fantasy to our daily life' is Makiko's creations slogan.
Makiko has worked with ceramics in both art and design context with huge love and appreciation to the ceramics.
Making
narrative one-off art pieces that have fantasy stories behind them. At
the same time, making tableware that are focused on function and
design.
Also doing many projects with the companies such as Alexander McQueen, Querida.inc etc

MN: Decorative, delicate, poetic, narrative, shiny
CV: What aspect of your personality is more useful in your practice?
MN:
passion, optimism,and love for the ceramics
CV: What is your favourite ceramic piece of all times ?
MN: eighteenth centuries MEISSEN'S figurines.
When I look at them, I am always always amazed.
The combination of ancient potters' great skills, sophisticated appearance and little bit of humor makes them really precious.
CV: Where do you get your inspiration from?
MN: Fairy tales, flea market, Antique shop, chat with friends who have different back ground, meditation, and my secret and favourite tree in Hyde park.
CV: If you could choose where to live/work in the world, where would you go?
MN: LONDON LONDON LONDON! This city gave me a lot of things: great friends, education, business opportunity, inspiration etc etc...
I LOVE LONDON for its cultural diversity, contrast between tradition and innovation.
Living and Working in London is so inspiring and thrilling(in good way).
but the problem is... winter season. Ideally live in tropical island with tropical flower, beautiful sea and bright sunshine during winter time and live in London rest of time.
CV: Your worst and your best ceramic moment
MN: worst moment is when i am struggling with new works with new concept. I feel like I am rubbish.
The best moment is the moment I can visualize what I wanted to create by ceramics.
and when I open the kiln and find the pieces are fired nicely.
I am not religious person, but in my best ceramic moment, I always appreciate to the 'God of Ceramics'.
Makiko has a solo exhibition on the 14th of June 2012 at ICN gallery in London and she is also doing a christmas pop up shop at Somerset House

"The Clayer, Part One: Surfacing, will be a place to learn how to create
rich and dynamic surfaces on clay. The course will run for six weeks
from February 27th, through April 8th, 2012. During the six weeks we
will cover various surface applications on clay such as: mishima inlay,
monoprinting on clay, carving and printing with your own block prints.
We will explore using unusual objects as printing tools as well as
learn how to other clay drawing media such as underglaze pencils."
